Quick Overview of Dream Interpretation

There is nothing spooky or new about dream analysis. It’s been going on for centuries. Over time the symbol meanings have developed greatly. You will find much more cohesion or similarity between different dictionaries than you might expect. Dream interpretation is not and exact science. Some would say it is not science at all and liken it to astrology. Others believe it reveals your current internal state, hidden messages for your subconscious. I belong that school of thought. Others think dreams are just a random dumping of memories. Some see it as contact to the spiritual world, and it face it can be sometimes.

One of the biggest problems is when dream interpreters get spooky or over-spiritual and go overboard forcing the dreamer’s dreams to be an interpretation of the future. Most often dreams are often merely reflecting the present or something that needs work now. In that sense dreams help shape the future, by giving you clues about the present, but they don’t necessarily predict it. Disregaridng any clues and warnings you receive certainly will have a negative impact on your future.

More often than not, the dreamer is speaking to himself, and much less often it God is speaking to the dreamer. This is an important distinction. Not discerning that properly leads to garbage that is no better than an incorrect “word” or bad prophecy. To much credit is given to demons affecting dreams.

Below are some quick bullets on dreams and dream interpreting that should answer may questions.

  • Dream Interpreting is nothing new; people have been doing it for centuries.

  • There is nothing super spiritual or “hoaky” about it - Dream Interpreting is a skill that can be learned by most anyone who is willing to do the work required, hence the key it IS work.

  • Like any other skill it takes time to learn. One could compare it to leaning to play and instrument or new language.

  • Although can be leaned not everyone is cut out for it. For example, I can change my own muffler, but I’d rather have some else do it.

  • Dream Interpreting can be beneficial or it can be abused. Some people are sincere and try to deliver proper results; others are frauds wanting attention, status, control or self-importance of some kind.
  • The materiel to learn Dream Interpreting is readily available, but like anything else you need discernment in what you study and in how you apply it.

  • It can be very, very, very, time consuming, but a “fast and smart” person can fake it.

  • A single page dream of 60 typed lines can take 1- 2 hours to discern, or even longer.

  • Dreams, like visions, can sometimes have meanings on multiple layers. That means 2 different people could have different results and both still be correct.

  • Dream Interpreting is both ancient and modern. The earliest accounts are recorded no clay tablet and papyrus. Modern psychologists and such as Freud and Jung wrote on dream analysis.

  • It is not an exact science. It is not intended as a substitute for career counseling, relationship counseling, or any other psychological help needs.
